Europe entered the 19th century fighting against Napoleon’s expanding influence, and then spent the remaining decades cleaning up the mess (or gifts!) of his revolution. NAPOLEONIC ERA -- UNIT 7.1 Summary: Napoleon Bonaparte spread the French Revolution to all of Europe while attempting to build a continental empire. CONGRESS OF VIENNA -- UNIT 7.2 Summary: After the widespread changes initiated during Napoleon’s reign, European leaders met in Austria to reorganize European affairs. UNIFICATION OF ITALY AND GERMANY -- UNIT 7.3 Summary: Giuseppe Garibaldi and Otto Von Bismarck led unification revolutions that impacted European balance of power and government structures. UNREST IN THE BALKANS -- UNIT 7.4 Summary: The ever-lasting Austrian Empire continues to dominate southeastern Europe, causing conflict and unrest amongst the numerous nationalities. UNIT 7 OBJECTIVES
The student will investigate three major sets of revolutions, their origin within the Enlightenment ideals, and their interconnectivity. TOPIC 7.1 The Napoleonic Era
